Posted on 16 July 2009 at 08:17:02 Foreign tourists visiting Britain do not necessarily embark from their own country. Hence it is imperative to find out the region from which they embark for the British Isles. The high spending tourists used to visit many destinations spread across different continents during the vacation period.
Statistics reveal that the number of tourists who embarked for Britain from the countries in Western Europe showed an increase by 2.2 percent in 1982 as against an increase by 11 percent in 1981. The proportion of tourists arriving from countries outside Western Europe increased to 53.1 percent in 1982 from 52.4 percent in 1981. Arrivals from the countries to the east of Europe, however, recorded a decline of 0.6 percent in 1982 as compared to the year 1981. As a result, the share of tourist’s traffic from such countries got reduced to 66.8 percent in 1982 from 47.5 percent in 1981. The Hotels in Stirling mostly helped these people to get accommodation.
Likewise, the number of tourists who embarked for Britain from countries in South East Asia showed an increase by 4.7 percent in the 1980s as against as increase by 2.2 percent during the next decade. The proportion of tourists from the countries in Latin America however, recorded a lower growth of 0.9 percent in 1980s as compared to the 1990s. Consequently, the share of tourist traffic from such countries got greatly reduced due to the adverse economic climate prevailing in those countries.
Arrivals from the countries in South West Asia, however, recorded a decline of 7.9 percent in 1984 when compared to the year 1983. As a result, the share of tourist traffic from such countries got reduced to 51.7 percent in 1984, from 54.1 percent in 1983. The visitors to UK from the countries in East Asia showed an increase of 1.3 percent in 1984. The share of tourists arriving from countries to the east of Asia went up from 45.9 percent in 1983 to 48.3 percent in 1984. It can be seen from the statistics published recently that excepting the tourists from central and South America, a majority of the tourists from other regions embarked for UK from ports in their own region.
