Posted on 30 December 2007 at 13:58:48 Specialist abilities and items are very useful things, only available to Specialists. The most useful of these are Tools, which can be used to heal, repair armor depletion mid-battle, even to revive fallen friends. There's also the tissue extractor and the salvage tool which aren't Specialist items. These get raw components (like nucleotides or metal) from corpses which is basically just useful to get some free credits.
Crafting is a way to make a good item a little better. You need to have crafting skills though, which depletes points available for combat skills. One or two levels of crafting skills is cheap enough, but many people create crafter clones which have the skills instead.
The components for crafting come only from disassembly of other weapons and armor. Say you need an Endoskeletal Solidifier for a +armor modification schematic for one of your armor pieces. You can only get this by disassembling an armor piece that already has a +armor mod (which destroys that armor piece), or you can buy one from the Surplus Market. Time-consuming and tricky work for very little reward, but it can be good if you want to wear the absolute best.
