Posted on 20 January 2005 at 15:15:29 Some people may have heard that yesterday an alliance guild (not on warsong) mannaged to kill a lvl 63 named boss in the Molten Core. One of the drops from him was a skill book for hunters, teaching the "Tranqualising Shot" skill. In regular game play it realy isn't a very impresive skill, as all it does is remove frenzy/fury. What is interesting though is that the very next boss they met used frenzy. Obviously the skill was specifcily placed to use against the next boss.
The Other Drop:
This has got me thinking about the Onyxia encounter, and the suposed trick involved in beating her. Perhaps there is a drop that can be found somewhere in her lair that will assist in her defeat. I was also museing about the posibility that her legendary "Fire Nova" attack could actualy be interuptable in some way.
Anyways, when we start raiding her lair it would be a decent idea to look around the whole lair a few times, searching for some special drop instead of going right for Onyxia.

Posted on 22 January 2005 at 17:09:40 Drops tend to fall into 3 categories:
-World Drops: Work like you say, any mob of the right level can drop them. Example: Arcent Custodian
-Instance/Zone Drops: Any mob in a certain instance of zone can drop them. Example: The Twin Blades in Zul Furak
-Mob Drops: Only a specific mob can drop them. Example: Deathstriker from Rend
I'm going to go out on a limb (considering I've never actualy been there myself) and say that there are likely some powerful drops linked only to the raid instances and thier bosses.
Onyxia's Key: Yea, I've heard that getting it involves some long and tedious quests in BRS/UBRS, so anyone who wants to go on the raid should work on getting the key asap. Unfortunatly I'm not sure where you can start the quest line.

Posted on 22 January 2005 at 19:34:13 The quest line starts with "the Warlord's command" a quest in Kargath, the town in the badlands. To get the quest find the warlord in kargath. Forget his name but he's either with the expeditionary party, at the top of the tower or somewhere in between. You will need to listen to his whole story and then he will give you a quest. Its a quest for lower black rock spire that you'll need to do with a 5 person group. Which is tough but doable. After that the quest line continues in upper BRS and other parts of the world.

Posted on 25 January 2005 at 16:59:26 the tough part is the first step which involves getting through lower spire with a 5-man group. The rest can be done in upper BRS pick-up raid groups and in a 5 person gorup in hte world outside. The trick is getting through lower with 5 people. Or cheating your way past this step by having people leave a raid group just before the bosses you need for the first quest die. But that's cheesy and no fun.

Posted on 01 February 2005 at 17:41:15 Pulled from the forums a guild
I have designed this little guide to help those who are wondering how to get the key (i.e. Drakefire Amulet) to Onyxia's Lair. The quests are very long, and most of them will require at least 5 people to complete.
Quest names may be different for Alliance.
1- Warlord's Command. The warlord who is standing on the top floor of the watchtower in Kargath sounds a little troubled. Talk to him and listen to what he says. At the end of the dialogue he gives you a letter that starts the quest.
2- The quest takes you to LBRS and you have to kill the ogre boss, the troll warrior boss, and the final dragonkin boss. These have to be done in a 5-man run (or you can exploit and quit the raid team just as each boss dies, get the credit, and get invited back to the raid group).
3- You also need to get Important Documents that are lying on the ground around one of the 4 bosses in LBRS. The documents, after being picked up by one person, will respawn randomly next to one of the bosses (it can respawn at the same place too).
4- After you turn this quest in, Warlord sends you to Orgrimmar where you first talk to one of the NPCs near Thrall, then Thrall himself, who sends you to find Rexxar. Rexxar roams the path between Stonetalon and Feralas, through Desolace.
5- Rexxar in turn sends you to an NPC in Western Plaguelands. This is a gnome who is standing in the nook of a tree in southern WP. You can check thottbot for exact location.
6- This NPC sends you to UBRS to collect 20 dragonkin eyes. After you collect these, you return to her.
7- She makes the Amulet of Draconic Subversion. This amulet lets you disguise yourself as a member of the Black Dragonflight (turns you into a red dragonkin). You have to go to Dustwallow Marsh and enter Emberstrife's Lair (the other cave next to Onyxia's Lair). Once in the cave, use the amulet, and go find the big dragon, who starts another series of quests for you to prove yourself.
8- First task is to go to Mazthoril in Winterspring and slay a blue dragon in the cave. Full group required (quite tough fight). After you kill this dragon, return to Emberstrife.
9- Second task is to kill the Champion of the Green Flight in Swamp of Sorrows. He roams around in the eastern part of the zone. After you kill it, return to Emberstrife.
After this point I'm not sure, since I'm currently doing the quests. But the rest should come along easily after you pick up the pace.
Anyone who wants to update this guide with the rest of the steps is welcome to.
