Skinning is used to gather skinned hides, which can be sold at a Leathercrafting Shop or turned into leather using the Tanning skill. To collect skinned hides, you must have a Skinning Knife and stand next to the corpse of a slain wolf, warg, deer, rabbit, snake, or cow. |
| Double-click on the skinning knife, then select the corpse. If the corpse has already been skinned, you’ll be told that. Find another corpse and try again. Otherwise, after 3 seconds, you’ll be told whether you’ve skinned a hide or not. The odds of success are 50% plus 1/2 of your skill level plus 1/6 of your Dexterity. Skinned hides are worth 3, so you’ll get about 1 ½ each if you sell them at the Leathercrafting Shop. Tanners can turn skinned hides into leather, which Leatherworkers need for making leather items. Skinning hides eventually wears out your skinning knife. Single-click on your skinning knife to see what kind of shape it’s in: new, slightly used, worn out, etc. A new skinning knife costs 150 at a Leathercrafting Shop, and can be used an average of 200 times before breaking (unless it gets repaired with the Iron Repair skill). |
